Difference between fear and respect:

The terms fear and respect are the two different aspects of human behavior. Respect is the one which is instilled with a certain type of discipline that makes us to learn with enthusiasm. Respect is built on trust, love and understanding of one another whereas fear is a purer emotion. It’s simply the recognition that someone or something has the potential to harm you and nothing more. It is the twisted way of getting respect. Fear makes us want get away as soon as possible because we don’t feel safe.
Respect is love full aspect, for e.g. we will tend to identify such a person we love and try to copy or be like them. We'll tend to admire someone we respect. But we tend to move away from a person we fear. We don't feel to go near with such a person, except in very extreme circumstances. On an emotional level, after some initial excitement, we tend to be at ease and comfortable with those we respect. We tend to be on guard and tense with those we fear. Treating people with respect makes our world a nicer place to live in, whether it's at home, at school, or out in our community. We live in a diverse nation made up of many different cultures, languages, races, and backgrounds. That kind of variety can make all our lives a lot more fun and interesting, but only if we get along with each other. And to do that we have to respect each other but if fear exists in us we tend to break our trust and quarrel each other which prevails us to live in a peaceful environment.
Thus, we can conclude that fear is a life-threatening whereas respect is life-enhancing. Respect leads us to positive way of our life but fear fades our life from being happy and live with peace.

Practical and Transferable Skills:

On this week in the tutorial class of module "Personal Development for Computing" we were given to discuss in pairs about the abilities that the graduate computing students should aim to acquire during this course of study. Accordingly, we were divided in pairs to discussion on the given points, most of the pairs presented their thoughts and views on their respective points. During this, the point I selected to present was “exhibit practical and transferable skills, including relevant approaches to group activity”.
Actually, Practical Skills refers to the skills that are developed by course design, coursework assessment, feedback, tutorials, presentations and seminars which endorse interactive and participative teaching and make able to share and communicate ideas whereas Transferable Skills explains the skills of reading and writing, as well as the transferable skills of public speaking, training, writing reports, etc. that are useful in many job situations.
These skills are mostly useful while doing jobs. The practical skills which we have developed can be useful in doing the official projects like making presentation, performing seminars, giving logical arguments, mostly it helps in communicative and participative aspects while participating in the group. In the same way, transferable skills also play an important role in doing the works as being a group member. This skill enhances in better writing of the reports, giving trainings, ability to summarize the key issues etc.
Thus, this point can be concluded as these skills helps on problem solving, develops self motivation, ideas on self management, reliability, co-operation and mostly communicative skills can be developed. Hence, we graduate students of computing typically should acquire the ability of practical and transferable skills.

Experiences of Presentation

When our tutor announced this coursework I thought it was a bit different related to others as this coursework had to be performed in a group. At the beginning we formed a group of 5 members. Compared to other groups, our group was bigger so it was very easy to complete the work but also it was like a difficult thing because of more than one member in a group.
For our group, choosing topic became a bit difficult part because we were not able to think about any appropriate topic related to computing which was well known among us. After many attempts, we thought of imparting some knowledge to write a simple program by java language that we have learned. So we decided to select ‘JAVA’ as our topic.
After we selected the topic, we started on discussing about the plan to solve the coursework. According to the plan, we decided to search the materials individually from the related books, journals, web portals, etc. so that we can collect more and more information and refine them, we thought this process can make our work easy and speedy and all of us started our research related to the topic.
Like every members in our group, I also get involved searching information from the respective sources, apart this, my main work was to design the layouts of slides and to give animations, as I have a little bit experience on it among my group members. Java being the part of our study, it was easier to find the information for our topic. As we know that java language is being handled by Oracle Company I started searching the needed materials in its official site and I found many information helpful for our topic. Moreover, I got a better idea from it and it was the main source of research for our coursework.
It was a great experience on doing this coursework in a group. Being a group member I got introduced with many ideas of my group members, with their habits of solving the problem and the techniques of understanding. During this period I developed my helping habits more than that of before and also I found a kind of improvement on designing the layouts of slide. After this group work I became closer with friends than before. We had an interesting time while discussing about the materials and the information collected by us was satisfactory too. Overall, it was a great fun and enjoyed a lot working in a group. Hope the future brings the similar kind of experiences and enhances my skills.

Reflection to my 1st semester

From my early age, I was interested in computing. As a result, I was able to achieve some progresses in this field during the time of my first semester in B.Sc computing course. Before, I had only the basic knowledge of computing, though I mostly like to play with it and its applications. This first semester was totally about imparting some basic knowledge, I had a good experience and enjoyed extremely on my modules: ‘Logic’, ‘Problem Solving for IT’, ‘Introduction to Programming’ and ‘Study Skills for Computing’.
Reflecting upon my academic development, I want to start with the first module ‘Logic’. In the beginning, I became bit nervous when I came to know that this module deals about the mathematical problems as I am weak at mathematical operations and I thought it would be very tough. Later on, I understood that this module is not tough as I thought rather it teaches to solve simple logical mathematical problems which are commonly used on computing. From this module I have grasped the ideas on logic, set, relations, functions and natural numbers and my understanding on logic has exceeded tremendously which can be proved from the marks that I have obtained from the exams and the due assignments as well as from my notebook.
Another module, ‘Problem Solving for IT’ which totally deals to deliver the idea about understanding and breaking the problem in a manageable form to reach the solution in the easiest way. As I was thinking that this module would be teaching us to solve the errors occurred while doing the IT exercises, I experienced the same thing during the course of study also. From this, I have taken hold of the concepts of algorithm, flow charts, excel and access. This module was divided into 2 parts: written and practical. In the written exam of algorithm and flow chart I could not score a good mark which made me upset but I tried harder to obtain a better mark for practical coursework of Excel as well as Access and I thought I have given the best of me.
Individually, my weakest module is ‘Introduction to Programming’. Although I have keen interest on programming I have never ever been introduced with any kinds of programming language before so it became much harder to understand the facts. But with my dedication, to some extent I became able to write simple programs and mostly it is very interesting to get introduced with BlueJ. Actually this module is totally related to the object-orientation concept which is the very new concept at this present context of programming. On implementation I have done 2 coursework as assignments, which were done up to appreciable. In achievements, this module has enhanced my skills for error solving and decision making while writing the codes.
The last module is, ‘Study Skills for Computing’. This module solely explains about developing the personal skills, improving reflective writings, etc. It is totally different from other modules and practical as well. Due to this module I have seen much verbal improvement on me while speaking as we have to perform a group presentation. Since, we have to create and write the articles about academic developments on the blog, I took it also as a plus point of my achievements as I have experienced improvements on my writings.
About feedbacks given to me, In Problem Solving for IT, I was suggested to practice more questions and shouldn’t be late during lecture and tutorial classes. And on Study Skills for Computing, the great compliment was that slides designed by me were attractive during presentation and improvement to be done was to be more focused on the listeners rather than on slides. Improve the grammatical and the sentence errors during the reflective writings as well as I have to give more preference on writing complex sentences while posting the blog.
Overall, I have achieved preliminary part of my computing course in this first semester. The strength positioned inside me has uplifted the skills I have attained, this semester explores development in becoming a specialist as well as self-reliant.
Apart from this, I have some action plans for the criticism that I got. In response to them, I have commenced to develop the reading habits of books, magazines, journals etc to improve writings abilities. I have tried to attend the trainings and conferences to built presentation skills.
Thus, I hope my knowledge in computing has evolved drastically in this semester. Curiosity on me to explore the computing stuffs has been increased more.

Technical differences between iPhone and android:

Define android and iPhone:
Android is Linux based Operating System (OS) developed by Google and OHA (Open Handset Alliance); a coalition of hardware, software and telecommunication companies.
Android begin its life as a Palo Alto-based startup company, founded in 2003 which was subsequently acquired by Google in 2005.
While iPhone is machintos based Operating System derived from Mac OS developed and supplied by Apple. It is formally released as iPhone OS in 2008.

Differences in features:
¢  Closed and Open type systems
¢  Battery Life
¢  Interface
¢  Hardware
¢  Applications

¢  Close and Open type system:
In iPhone we cannot use and run tools except developed by apple. But in android it’s all open, we can install and run any tools may or may not be related to Google.
¢  Battery Life:
In iPhone, battery life seems to be good than android but batteries in iPhone can’t be replaced while it can be done easily in android.
¢  Interface:
The Apple screen is larger than most of the android screens, meaning navigation and keyboard typing are easier. Android suggests a number of auto-corrections for misspelled words, while iPhone suggests only once.
¢  Hardware:
The iPhone does not support the addition of an SD card for increased storage, while most Android models do. The Android operating system comes packaged with a wide variety of different hardware. The iPhone is only manufactured by one company, giving users no choice over the number and level of features on their phone.
¢  Applications:
All applications in the Apple Store must go through an Apple approvals process that has been the center of controversy. Android applications need not go through an approvals process.

Difference in Loading:

The Above charts shows the load time calculated on the basis of 100 websites browsed on both.

My Academic Achievements after week 8

As I have already mentioned on previous blog that study is serious matter for me. I have brought many changes on academic development on me till this date being an Islington Student. It is said that learning in the life never completes. I also believe this, since I am learning and achieving something with the every transit of time.
As the matter of fact the more deep we go the more tough we experience. This what I am experiencing now, since we have already completed week 10 and we are on the end of the first semester there are some tough experiences and the same time the developments in the course of study as well.
In the module Logic, we studied about the relations, matrix representation, equivalence relation, equivalence class, function and its composition and about special function. All these lessons were feeling some ward tough than that of previous one. Although I tried to coup up with these chapters since our last exam weighing 25% of the module was nearing. I had to work hard on these chapters related to the past one, but any how after the completion of week 11 we had the test. I was thinking that the questions would be much tough but when I appeared the question paper was not as tough as I was thinking and I did the best than what I had expected.
Another module Introduction to programming, we studied about Multi-dimensional arrays, Reading files, ArrayList, Iterators, Class diagram and discussed about our final coursework. From these topics, I have learned to design a better program than of before like writing arrays containing other arrays from multi dimensional arrays, making array list, creating a class diagram before writing the code. I practiced a lot on these topics as these were very important for my 70% coursework and time was limited. Even though I faced with many errors and problems when we were assigned with the coursework but also I seek helps from friends and ideas from my tutor at last I got solved.
In the Problem Solving for IT, we studied about creating spreadsheet, charts, macros, Database and its management, Entity and attributes, Relationships, Primary and foreign keys, etc. From topics I learned more about Excel spreadsheets though I was familiar with it before and knew how to use ms access database and its purpose. Form this module we had left a coursework weighing 70% of total marks which was about Excel and Access. I had to be much sincere with this coursework to score a better mark since the mark was poor in the test exam weighing 30% of total marks. But when doing this coursework I didn’t have much problem as I have practiced a lot but also there was a problem making a pie chart of grade in excel and writing query in access but also I overcome through them seeking ideas from my tutor and peers and able to submit before deadline.

Last and the most interesting module, Study Skills for Computing, in this module we studied about the informations of skills during presentation and effective report writing. Moreover, I was more focused on making presentations and practicing its skills because it was going to be new experience and never performed before. But when the time came I was too much worried even though we had dumpy presentations. After the presentations, I got lots of comments on my presentation and they mentioned satisfactory to our group presentation. Now I have thought of improving it, being in a seminars and conferences. And there left the last report to be submitted was personal statement and PDP form on the 13th week.
Thus, the time after week 8 was filled with a lot of coursework pressures, group presentations works and exams. But also I had the great fun and Interesting time with lots of new experiences. Finally, we are at the end of 1st semester and it’s a relief from the course works.
